Grant funding available to help “undiscovered” destinations expand tourism offerings

Eligible South Carolina entities should submit a pre-application to SCPRT by September 30, 2022
Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) is now accepting pre-applications from local government entities for the Undiscovered South Carolina grant program.
This grant program assists communities with the development of publicly owned tourism products and attractions that bring visitors to “undiscovered” parts of the Palmetto State. Applicants must be a county or municipal government.
Pre-applications (letters of intent) must be submitted using SCPRT’s online Webgrants portal and are due September 30, 2022 at 4 p.m.
Undiscovered South Carolina grant information and eligibly criteria:
- Amount: $50,000 minimum up to $200,000
- Cash match: 1 to 1
- The applicant must be a county or municipal government with Accommodations Tax distributions of $900,000 or less, according to data released by the State Treasurer’s Office
Four projects received a total of $545,000 in the most recent Undiscovered South Carolina funding cycle, including the Walterboro Wildlife Sanctuary Boardwalk Revitalization, Bluffton’s Garvin-Garvey House Exhibits, Kingstree’s Black River Landing (Phase I), and the Florence Soccer Complex.
