Reserved parking will make visits to State Parks on the Grand Strand more convenient this summer

April 12, 2024

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – To make visits to Huntington Beach State Park and Myrtle Beach State Park easier during the busy summer season, the parks will offer a reserved parking option.

Reserved parking will be available for 20% of all parking spots at both parks between May 16, 2024 – September 2, 2024, for $5 per parking spot, per day. All other parking spots will remain available for visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.

“It is so tough to close the gates on a busy weekend when a park is completely at capacity and to hear from folks still stuck in the line to get in that their family or friends are already inside the park for a cookout or beach day,” said South Carolina State Parks Director, Paul McCormack. “Thanks to the new reserved parking option, if a group will be traveling in more than one car for their beach day, they can all reserve a parking spot in advance to guarantee their entry, worry-free. Locals and visitors from all over will benefit from this ability to plan ahead and enjoy the park.”

The $5 parking fee does not include park admission and is required for all reservations, even if the visitor has a Park Passport. Reservations can be made up to one month in advance and must be made a minimum of three days before the desired reservation date.

Similar reserved parking options have been successfully implemented at Jones Gap and Devils Fork state parks in the upstate and numerous local, state, and national parks nationwide.

Reservations will be available online using the South Carolina State Parks online reservation tool beginning April 16, 2024. Reserved spots are in designated areas at both parks, and a map with more specific location details will be available when you are making your reservation. Parking reservations can only be made online.

Anyone with a reserved parking spot must arrive at the park by noon on the day of their reservation. They will be allowed entry even if the rest of the park has reached capacity. After noon, any open spots that had previously been reserved that day will open for first come, first served parking.

Reserved parking is only available for cars; buses, RVs, and trailers are not permitted in reserved parking areas. Additional terms and conditions apply and are subject to change. The South Carolina State Parks online reservation tool will be updated with the latest information.
