Product Development Grants
The Product Development Grant Program (PDGP) is designed to assist communities and organizations to develop tourism product that will encourage visitors to travel to South Carolina. Developing, implementing, and maintaining a successful tourism product is a long-term, complex and expensive process. Some communities and organizations need assistance in planning and determining the feasibility of projects, while others have completed the planning phase and need help with the actual implementation of a project. The product development grants will assist eligible applicants with the creation of viable tourism product that will add value to their communities and regions and bring visitors to South Carolina.

Recent Research
Raising awareness of the contribution of Travel & Tourism in South Carolina is a catalyst for industry and government to continue to work together to reach the enormous potential Tourism has on the economic well-being of our state.
Since 2000, South Carolina has commissioned Tourism Satellite Account research that quantifies all aspects of Travel & Tourism demand, from consumer travel expenditures, to business purchases, capital investment, government spending and exports. It then translates this information into economic concepts of production, such as Gross State Product and employment, that can be compared with other industries and the economy as a whole to provide credible statistical information that will assist in our policy and business decision process.
The message from the 2006 report is clear: Travel & Tourism is one of the largest industries and employers in South Carolina. $16.7 billion in total economic demand generated over 10% of state employment and nearly 6% of Gross State Product. Tourism is also a major government revenue producer, accounting for over $1.1 billion in state and local tax revenues in 2006.
